the Speckles is famous because people know her. Convention people mention you when we talk LJ.
So, when I was two...(the lovely and talented
lightz474,
atomicpagan,
ancient_immie know what I mean.)
Saturday-
I end up having breakfast with Klingons. They're a couple from Atlanta and their quite nice. They spend a lot of time in costume, traveling around. There are a lot of Klingons at the convention, and a really neat Klingon bar, complete with an agony booth (with a Kirk stand-up) and Guitar Hero.
Older guy #1 works with film editing and promises to send me a copy of pirates when he gets it. Older guy #2 works at a fish market and wants my contact information. He buys me breakfast, which is sweet at first, but gets frustrating after awhile.
We watch the dealer's room get set up, and
be_lanna and Tom Paris (the lovely Nathen) walk to the dealer's room with me. Aside from all the stuff is a $2000 autographed poster with all the Stargate cast. It doesn't seem as much fun to buy the autographs. I'd rather get them personally so there's a story. We're actually in the area where they set up autographs, and though I intend to get Vanessa Angel first, I end up in the Alice Krige line.
Alice is beloved because she takes the time to talk to everyone. Alice and I!I mention that I'm thinking about going to Vick's university in Johannesburg and she signs her picture for my mother.
Opal will be safe in South Africa!" She smiles and laughs and lets me take her picture. She's not much taller then me and moves with the same incredible grace that amazes me.
Vanessa and I Vanessa Angel is very very thin, but seems sweet and a little out of place. She's not as popular as Marina Marina and I (who all the men want) or Claudia Christian, who's just a riot. Claudia takes a picutre of me and her Claudia takes pictures of her and people with their cameras and gets a shot that looks down both our shirts. She's funny and very popular. I nearly forget my picture on Marina's table and she calls me sweetheart. I'm still intimidated by her. She has the practiced smile of a professional and puts up with a lot of men.
I hang out in the Klingon bar for awhile and see Torri get into an elevator. I say nothing and she's in with more Klingons who are very nice to her. She gets mobbed less by some older women.
I meet Andy (older guy #3) and chat with Christina and
be_lanna. The younger couple with the matching shirts make up the "Alice tribe" in the back of the autograph line. The women running the door to the autographs is funny and organized. Alice takes her time, so does Brandy, so if you want them you have to wait. Claudia, Marina and Vanessa can line up on one side, but everyone else waits.
I watch the end of Brandy Leford and Vanessa Angel. I see Jo get her picture taken with Torri in the line ahead of me. Torri takes the strawberry glasses and flips them over so there's a "yin and yang" effect. She bends her knees whenever someone is shorter and is a consumate professional. Crystal's there too and she's in full panic mode. I relax as much as I can. (which isn't much) Torri likes my shirt. Alice did too and I'm very pleased I brought it (even if it slips down occasionally)
I ask permission to hug the Torri and she's very sweet. She says of course and asks me who I am. I manage to get my name out while I'm hugging. She asks where I'm from. The photo guy jokes that Minnesota is right near Canada. There's love. I came all this way and she's a real, very lovely person. And part of me dies of squee. Literally. She does this really cute thing where she makes herself shorter when the person with her is short.
Then she talks. And she comes out and signs the boobies on the poster. And looks at her own and decides the poster is not to scale.
Torri signs the boobies
And she wants questions. So I ask, because I've been dying too, if Joe had any trouble carrying her in "Echoes". And Torri, bless her, sits down in the chair and explains that his stunt double had to do it. "Because she's a welsh girl and she's heavy." For a moment I believe her, and she says Joe would have, but his stunt double was better. Then she laughs because she has us. "He was worried," she says, "but he did a good job."
Torri in a chair
She gets a free more questions I can't remember at the moment. Whenever it's a good question her eyes light up and there's an "ooo!" She fidgets and apologizes for it. She does this adorable thing where she plays with her sleeves.
Torri, Torri, and more Torri...
Her worst favorite episode is the "First Strike". She really likes working with Richard Dean Anderson. She loves the episodes where she has a lot to do. "Real World" is a huge favorite because she got to do lots of acting. She mentions that she likes doing the recurring thing because when she's there she has a lot to do. She's working all the time, not like the episodes where she's just in one scene. I can't blame her. She seems like she's at peace with the producers. She's working on Sedge's career right now and has a huge smile when she talks about her puppy.
There's a pause in questions and she looks at us. "Any questions? No, well then, when I was two..." her finger goes to her chin and she grins.
Someone asks about Paul and she says she just had lunch with him. She sees him a lot now that he's working on something else. She likes it. She makes she's not spoiling us too badly and asks what episode we're on. We decide it's 3x15. I tell her Canada gets them first and she stops us.
"Wait, I have to sit down," she retreats to the chair laughing. "Canada got something first." She tells us we shouldn't feel bad, it's the only thing Canada's ever gotten first.
I ask her about the red shirts. She says it's her uniform. She thinks. She's not really sure. Elizabeth might just not be creative. She says she's the one who talked them into letting her wear heels instead of hiking boots. She never goes off world so she doesn't need them. It only took three years. The green sweater is mentioned and she pouts that poor Elizabeth's gone on one date in three years. It's cute. She must not have thought much of Simon...
Someone asks a question about John and Elizabeth and there's an "oooo!" and shouts of Sparky. Torri likes the Sparky.
Torri talking about something small
She admits she's a Shakespeare slut. And she got into acting because she wanted to be a speech coach, went to school and got out and realized she wasn't qualified to do anything else. Torri says she loves words and dialogue. She writes rhyming couplets on birthday cards.
She talks about "Save my Soul" when I ask about it. She likes being naughty, playing the bad guy is really fun. She's working on another movie with "the Frenchies". She says they're too young to think they can't do things, and that's fabulous. She loved "Yumi in Love" and had a fabulous time being evil in "The Long Goodbye".
If she could be anyone else on TV she'd be "Calamity Jane" from Deadwood. I've never seen Deadwood, but now I want too. I have my squeemoment when she remembers my name. At first she wants to call my "Mara" but she figures it out. (big stupid grin of Torri love)
We ask about kissing John. She had fun. Joe was sweet, but the crew gave her a hard time. "Do it again from this angle, and this angle...like a hundred takes." She mentions Jason drops his pants a lot when he's off camera, and he'll do anything to mess people up when he's feeding them lines. She also mentions he's a gentleman. He pulls out chairs. She loves that about him.
Torri!
She's never been Lady Macbeth (my favorite evil character) she says it would take awhile to get her out of her head. She's been Lady MacDuff though. She admits she doesn't really care much about money. She'll do any project that has a lot of vision for passionate people.
She gets a ton of well-deserved applause and we're on to autographs. She gets in a little bit of trouble for talking to the people she's signing for. They don't want her to personalize and people can't take her picture while she's signing. She's a really good sport. Smiles at everyone. She grins when she signs my computer. She hasn't signed one before. When she signs the picture she personalizes it and it instantly becomes one of the most precious things in my possession. Torri's picture for me!! *squeeing and dancing around* Serenity (my laptop) is all spiffed up now
Then I find dinner, take some pictures of the hotel and put on a skirt for the cocktail party. The fantastic bartender makes me an apple martini, which is lovely.
Alice shows up as does Claudia. Claudia at the party Alice has a wonderful black dress with a red shawl. the Alice dress I ask her about it and she says she got it from a movie where she played Joan Collins. The costume people were kind enough to 'lose' it for her. She says it's not her style, but she likes it. She says she wears it occasionally. I talk to her for awhile. (I'm massively smitten with her grace and her accent) She's working on a project with her husband. They're shooting a movie in her back yard with a new kind of HD camera. It's 90 minutes without sex or explosions, just two people talking. It has a Japanese name. "Setguski" or something similar. It comes from a Japanese poem. She and her husband, his name is Paul, are working on it with a friend. They're even going to do the cutting and the sound themselves. She's very excited.
The Torri arrives and gets a fancy water with lime. We talk for a bit. She likes that I asked questions. She admits she's kind of distractable, but sometimes she thinks she should go back to school. She asks me what I do and laughs when I tell her math. I like the logic. She worries she has lime on her lip. The back of my head can't get over how fantastically normal she is. I ask her about Toronto and tell her I'm going. She's exciting because her lives in Toronto. I ask if her mom's coming to the convention. She hadn't thought about that.
Torri goes to the banquet and I meet the wonderous Jo and Ro (who's pretending to be Lindsey to go to the party) i hang out with them and change into swimsuit for the tiki party. over @ Lindsey's journal for tiki pic Before this picture she apologizes that her hands are cold. (one of them is on my mostly naked back) But I promise it's okay. (dies of sweetness)
Funny thing. I steal Torri and ask her if John and Elizabeth would have Mensa babies. She agrees!!!! And says they'd have good hair if they got Joe's hair. (she isn't fond of hers, which she mentions is curly sometimes, and sometimes not, depending on it's mood...) She dances with us a bit, drinks a margarita and apologies when she has to go to bed.
be_lanna picks me up for a picture, and Tom Paris/Nathen with an 'e' does the same. I talk to Alice, who makes fun of me for changing into nothing. Someone shows her my tattoo. (there's a pirate ship on my back that I don't currently have a picture of) Alice has cold hands as well but she really likes it. I could pretty much die happy at this point.
More pictures and Alice obsessing later. ;) Torri was and is absolutely stellar. I can't wait to see her again. I'm a complete Torri!slut/Alice!slut. *grins*
If whores are loved they're a Harem. I need to make a Torri!Harem icon... and one that says "When I was two..."
Lousy China taking me away.
